🐐 THE GOAT of stoner flicks! 😳🍃
"You ever see the back of a twenty dollar bill... on weed? Oh, there's some crazy shit, man."

Whether you partake in smoking up, or not ... there is no denying that Dave Chappelle's Half Baked is hilarious IMHO. And although I can't think of a single thing I don't like about it, I just can't bring myself to slap down 5 stars on such a silly medicinal comedy.
"We don't have a corkscrew ... All right. Then get me an avocado, an ice pick and my snorkel ... Trust me, bro. I've made bongs…

"I love weed, But not as much as I love pussy!"
You don't have to be high to enjoy this movie, I repeat, you do have to be high to enjoy this movie.

Saw it in the theater, and it was a good crowd, so that has to count for something. I don't smoke weed, so I don't know how this got on my watchlist. But yeah, LOTS of cameos.
Vegan alerts:
-A horse dies after a guy feeds it junk food.
-A dog dies.
-People try to get a dog high.
-Flashback to dog fights.
-One of the guys works at a burger joint.
-Hot dog scene.
-Ice cream scene.
-References to non-vegan food they want to eat when they get high: ice cream (Häagen-Dazs), sour cream, etc.
-Someone eating pizza.
-A fish is thrown out of its tank.
-Girls are wearing animal print tops. This is the 146th film I saw using Movie Pass.

with some dip, man.
Some beef jerky. Some peanut butter.
Get some Haagen Dazs ice cream bars. A whole lot.
Make sure chocolate. Gotta have chocolate, man.
Some popcorn. Bread. Popcorn. Graham crackers.
Graham crackers with the marshmallows, the little marshmallows.
And little chocolate bars. We'll make some smores, man.
Yeah, that's what l was sayin', yo.
Also celery, grape jelly, Captain Crunch with the little crunch berries.
Pizzas. We need two big pizzas, man.
Everything on 'em. With water, whole lot of water.
And... Funyuns.
Yeah.""A quintessential stoner comedy oozing with nostalgic merit.
Some of the jokes have always been juvenile but many still hold up, viewing it post Chappelle Show… -
tag yourself i'm the horse who succumbed to its diabetes

I mean, I guess I laughed at the Bob Saget cameo, but that's about it. As much as I love Dave Chappelle, this movie was just formulaic and lazy.
I typically have a soft spot for stoner comedies (I love Harold and Kumar and Pineapple Express), but this just didn't do it for me. It was just so....meh. Oh well, I'll always have Chappelle's Show.....

Sometimes I think I need to skew my rating system for movies I watch high because I always enjoy them more.
That said, I thought this movie was great! And I was high. 4 stars.

I know this movie is bad but idc

Beloved 90s Comedies
It's hard to overstate how much I appreciate Dave Chappelle as a comedian. His stand-up specials in the 90s and 2000s made it difficult for me to breathe and changed the way I thought about criminal justice and race relations at the same time. Chappelle's Show made me feel like I was being let in on a secret; it was like a communique from another world. His overall sense of irreverence and nonchalant nihilism helped me see the humor in even the darkest situations. But most importantly, his ultimate stoner comedy Half Baked helped me learn that getting high is fun and hilarious.
I think this movie usually doesn't get a fair shake because it's a weed…

Honestly, this is pretty funny. I laughed out loud multiple times. Semi-regularly even.
If I'd been a stoner half my age, I probably would have thought it was the funniest thing I've ever seen... which explains the reviews I used to hear from classmates who fit that description.
Neighbor, this is not the funniest film ever. Obviously, it's dumb. It has nothing important to say. It arguably has nothing unimportant to say either.
But it's a decent time.
(P.S. I'm quite surprised this currently has only 1.6k reviews, and only roughly twice that in ratings. I always thought this was a pretty popular cult classic. I was probably just the right demographic at the right time.) -
There are like 5 moments of pure comedic genius in this that totally justify its existence. You can tell Dave Chappelle has a genuine love for weed and the rituals around smoking (same), and the few moments of absolute brilliance (that opening with the kids, the types of stoners, all the cameos etc) feel like love letters to marijuana at a time when it was still taboo to smoke marijuana, and also like sketches from a missing episode of The Chappelle Show. It's stupid and inconsistent, but then again, so am i. :)
